“I am really pleased with the tournament,” head coach Brad Pearce said. “Everybody came out, took it seriously and competed hard. It was a good opportunity to see what we need to work on as well as the positives of each and every player. I especially liked the competitiveness and spirit from the freshmen and returned missionaries.”
Cullimore defeated junior teammate John Pearce in two sets (6-0, 6-3) to claim the singles victory.
Bourgeois, a senior from Australia, and Vincent, a freshman from California, upset No. 1 seeded Cullimore and Pearce 9-8 (7-3) in a tightly contested tiebreaker to secure the doubles title.
The tournament was unique in that each player entered on his own and competed individually. Both the singles and doubles brackets were open to local college and junior players.
The Cougars continue preseason play at the USTA/ITA All-American and USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships in October.
