Barnett, Thayne selected for ITA All-American Championships
PROVO, UT - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has awarded qualifying-round spots to BYU's Jack Barnett and Wally Thayne for the ITA Men's All-American Championships. The annual tournament is the fall national championship for both singles and doubles at the collegiate level.
Barnett and Thayne will begin singles play on Saturday, Oct. 1, in the prequalifying singles round. They will then team together in qualifying doubles, which begin on Monday, Oct. 3. The ITA awards prequalifying and qualifying entries based on preseason rankings and UTR Ratings.
The singles prequalifying and qualifying rounds run from Oct. 1-4, with entrants competing for the final 16 spots in the main draw of 64 players. The doubles main draw has 32 teams, with eight spots available through qualifying on Oct. 3-4.
All rounds are single elimination, with automatic entrants joining at various points. Barnett and Thayne will have the opportunity to play in additional consolation matches if they are eliminated.
The main draw for both singles and doubles will be Oct. 5-9. The event is hosted by the University of Tulsa, with matches played at the school’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center and the nearby Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park. Tournament draws and other information will be announced at a later date.
