H20 Cougars Persevere In Day Three Of The MWCC

OKLAHOMA CITY -- BYU tallied four first place finishes as the Cougars competed in day three of the Mountain West Conference Championships.

The women’s 200 free relay team, consisting of Taryn Toolson, Sara Jayne Baldwin, Kim Welch and Aleesha Miller, received a first place finish with their time of 1:31.05.

Rachel Grant took the first place title for the women’s 400 IM with her time of 4:10.77.

John Kendrick recorded a first place time of 1:36.84 in the men’s 200 freestyle.

Freshman Jake Taylor won the men’s 100 back, touching in at a time of 47.14.

Along with the outstanding first place finishes, BYU had successes in just about every other race of the night. The men’s 200 free relay team consisting of Jordan Fletcher, Ryan Krause, Daniel Bates and Christian Keil finished in fourth with their time of 1:21.79.

Freshmen Rafael Alfaro and Stephen Richards touched in for second and third place finishes in the men’s 400 IM with their times of 3:53.92 and 3:55.93, respectively.

In the women’s 100 butterfly, freshman Kim Welch recorded a time of 53.95, finishing in third place.

Senior Sara Jayne Baldwin finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.29, just ahead of teammate Aleesha Miller who touched in at1:02.76.

In the men’s 100 breast, Vytenis Slenys touched in at 54.40 for the sixth place finish.

Candice Smith grabbed the fifth place finish in the women’s 100 backstroke with her time of 54.39.

After the day’s races, the men’s team dropped to second place with a total of 480 points, just behind UNLV’s 538.5 points. The women’s team is currently sitting at second place with a total of 366 points behind SDSU's 453.
