PROVO -- After a week off of competition, the Cougars are back in the Richards Building pool this weekend for a match-up against Denver University on Saturday at 12 p.m.

“Denver has a really good team this year and I expect they will give us a fight in every race,” BYU head coach Tim Powers said. “For example, they have been 3 seconds faster that us in the 400 free relay and that’s a race I know we will do well in so I’m excited to see how the races will go.”

Originally, the meet was supposed to begin at 1p.m., but has been changed to 12 p.m. due to Denver’s flight arrangements.

“This meet is going to show the strength of the 200 yard swimmers because the 100 events won't be featured for this meet,” Powers said. “We haven’t done this format in a long time so it’s going to be interesting to see how the swimmers do for both teams. “

At their last competition, the Pacific Invite, the Cougars dominated and came home from California with a first place win for both the men and women.

Highlights of the meet included seniors John Kendrick and Rachel Grant recording multiple first place wins, as well as both the men’s and women’s 400 free relay teams taking first. Freshmen Allie Dodds and Kim Welch also excelled with first place wins of their own.

“I haven’t been surprised with the efforts of the freshmen,” Powers said. “ They are doing just as good as I knew they would. They are swimming up to expectation and are doing very well.”

Next week, the Cougars will travel to California for their first conference competition of the season against San Diego State. This meet will take place on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.
