PROVO -- In what will be a busy week for BYU the divers will host the BYU Diving Invite on Nov. 17-18 while the men's and women's swim teams head to Long Beach, Calif., to compete in the Speedo Cup held Nov. 16-18.

"The Diving Invite will be a high-level competition," said BYU dive coach Keith Russell. "Some of our athletes will do some new dives, and I'm hoping a few of them will qualify for the zone meet."

UNLV, BYU and possibly Utah will compete in the invite. On Friday the divers will perform in the 1- and 3-meter events. In Saturday's competition the divers will continue on the 1- and 3-meter boards and will also dive from the platform. Participants will be hoping to score high enough to qualify for the zone meet held at the end of the season. The zone meet is where divers can qualify for nationals.

The BYU men's and women's swim teams start Speedo Cup competition on Thursday. There are a total of 18 events divided up into three days of competition.

The BYU women's swim team placed third in the 2005 Speedo Cup behind Stanford and Air Force. The last time the Cougar women won the Speedo Cup was in 1998, and the last time a BYU woman won an individual title was in 2002 when Courtnee Adams won the 100 free (51.36).

"We have some good competition this weekend," said BYU women's head swim coach Stan Crump. "We're seeded well in a lot of events and our goal is to get season's best."

On the men's side senior Brett Allen won the 50 free (20.16) and swam on the first-place 400 free relay (3:01.13) at the 2005 Speedo Cup helping the No. 24 BYU men place third behind Stanford and Nevada. Over the last 10 years the men's team has placed in the top three every year and won the invitational in 2002.
