BYU Alumni Compete in Annual Blue/White Meet
PROVO -- The BYU swim teams finished off their preseason competition Friday night in the annual Blue/White Alumni meet. The men's and women's teams and the alumni swimmers divided up into two squads and competed against each other.
"We had some alumni swimmers come out tonight that meant a lot to the program," said men's head coach Tim Powers, who is the longest tenured coach at BYU.
Some of the alumni that swam Friday night were 1984 Brazil Olympian Ronald Menezes, four-time All-American Dmitri Malinovsky in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and three-time Mountain West Conference champion and NCAA qualifier Randy Belliston.
The Cougar women had many alumnae swim at the meet as well. MWC breaststroke champions Nikki Xanthos and Jamie Lambert and Jennifer Teerlink who competed in the 2000 MWC Championships, were some of the notable women alumnae.
"Tonight was fun having some of the alumnae here," said women's head coach Stan Crump. "Jennifer Teerlink swam faster tonight than she did in college. I was impressed with her swim and it looked like she had been training."
The BYU women will train for two more weeks and then head to Albuquerque to face New Mexico and Northern Arizona on Nov. 3. The Cougar men will have their first dual meet of the year at SMU on Nov. 4.
