BYU Men Defeat Utes in Season Opener
SALT LAKE CITY -- In the first swim meet of the season, men's swimming defeated the Utes 152 to 136, while women's swimming trailed close behind Utah, 148 to 140.
BYU women won in the 300 yard backstroke relay, with a final time of 2:55.86 by swimmers Nichole Tolley, Carolyn Wigginton, and Brittany Davis.
In the men's 300 yard backstroke, Gary Tan, Mark Chay, and James Bekker worked together to defeat the Utes, with a final time of 2:33.82, with Utah's final time being 2:43.16.
The men came through again in the 800 yard freestyle relay, with a final time of 6:55.87, defeating the Ute's score of 7:14.45. Randy Belliston, Diogo Yabe, Zach Anderson, and David Mason were all part of the victory.
For women's diving, Mindy Jones received a final score of 216.00, scoring 14 points in the 1-meter diving event.
Senior Justin Beardall finished at the top, receiving a final score of 278.65 for men's 1-meter diving.
On Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, women's swimming competes at the Big West Shootout in Irvine, Calif.
