BYU Diver to Represent U.S. at World University Games

Rachelle Smith, an All-American diver at BYU, will represent the United States at the World University Games July 7-9 in De Palma, Spain.

Smith, a junior from West Valley, was the runner-up at this year's WAC Championships. She finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation based on her performance in the NCAA Championships.

Although her finish at the NCAAs would have left her out of international competition, Smith tightened her routine to take second at the U.S. National Diving Championships. The performance was enough to earn her a spot on the four-woman U.S. Diving team for the World Games in July.

"Rachelle is one of the most powerful women divers in the country," said BYU head diving coach Keith Russell. "She has put in the time and effort to hone her skills, so everything has come together for her this year."
