BYU Freshmen Sweep Male Swimer and Diver of the Week Honors
PROVO -- BYU athletes Gary Tan and Scott Randall, both freshmen, were honored as the Mountain West Conference male swimmer and diver of the week Wednesday.
Tan, a 17-year-old Singapore native, was named the Mountain West Conference Male Swimmer of the Week for his performance in a close meet against UNLV last Friday. Tan scored first-place finishes in both the 200 back and 200 IM to break his own conference-best times in the events. Tan holds the national record in the 200 back in Singapore, and currently boasts the conference-best time in the event by over five seconds.
Randall, also a freshman, hails from Mesa, Ariz. and received Mountain West Conference Diver of the Week honors. Randall stormed to a first-place finish on the 3-Meter board against UNLV after finishing third in the event against Utah. Competing in just his second collegiate meet ever, Randall scored a 260.45 in the event, 20 points higher than his closest competitor. He will compete this weekend in the USC Diving Invitational.
