Diver Perform Well at Qualifying Meet
FEDERAL WAY -- Five BYU divers performed well at the Zone E Diving Championships Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, sophomore Justin Wilcock finished in third-place on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 332.95 while Aaron Russell came in fifth with a score of 314.00. Junior Viraj Patil finished thirteenth with a score of 256.30. On Saturday, Russell finished in second-place on the 3-meter board with a score of 572.50 while Wilcock came in fourth-place, scoring 526.20. Patil came in ninth with a score of 484.20.
On the platform, Wilcock came in third with a score of 525.30 while Russell came in sixth, scoring 483.50. Patil finished ninth with a score of 469.90.
For the women, senior Anna Tutunnikova finished twelfth on the 3-meter springboard with a score of 439.25 while teammate Kelli Einfeldt finished 24th, scoring 217.45. On Saturday, Tutunnikova came in fourth on the 1-meter board with a score of 263.55 while Einfeldt placed tenth, scoring 247.30.
The swimmers and divers will next compete in the NCAA Championships. The women go to Long Island, N.Y., March 15-17 while the men travel to College Station, Texas, March 22-24.
