Cougars Lose Close Meet, Arizona Diving Results

Corvallis, ORE. (January 12, 2002) - The women's swim team lost 110-92 in a close meet at Oregon State, Saturday. The women won only three of 11 events, but managed to stay close the entire meet without any diving scores. The loss drops them to 3-3 on the season.

All-American Cortnee Adams won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.01. Senior Tina Adkinson won the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:07.84. The 400-free relay team of Heidi Leitz, Nichole Burrows, Monica Ferrell, and Adams won by nearly four full seconds with a time of 3:35.16.

"It was a close meet," said women's head swim coach Stan Crump. "We swam much better than we did against Washington on Friday. We were more alive and have some signs of life."

The women will host two conference meets this weekend starting with Colorado State on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Richards Building Pool. The women then host New Mexico on Saturday, January 19 with the time to be announced.

The men's diving team competed in the Arizona Diving Invitational Friday and Saturday. All-American Justin Wilcock placed second on the men's 3-meter with a score of 551.09. Wilcock also placed second on the Platform with a score of 345.46 and third on the 1-meter with a score of 327.45.

All-American Aaron Russell dove to a second place finish on the 1-meter event with a score of 346.05. Russell also placed fourth on the 3-meter with a score of 521.24 and fifth on the platform with a score of 316.35.

Other finalists included sophomore Justin Beardall placing fifth on the 1-meter and seventh on the 3-meter, respectively.
