Jamie Lambert Represents Cougars Well at Nationals

AUSTIN, Texas - Sophomore Jamie Lambert was the only Cougar selected to represent the BYU at the NCAA women's swimming and diving nationals in 2002. Lambert qualified for the 100 breast with her winning performance at the MWC Championships.

On Friday, Lambert represented BYU finishing the race in 37th place and did not qualify to swim in the final competition.

"Jamie swam well and respresented BYU well," said women's head swim coach Stan Crump. "She was nursing a cold and that might have had an effect on her performance."

Lambert's performance came as a surpise to many because she didn't not win a single dual meet event in the regular season. Coach Crump said her improvement over the season did not surprise him because Lambert always gives her all.

Junior Cortnee Adams and sophomore Tamber Covington, who qualified for the NCAA last season, will be representing BYU at the USA Nationals held this weekend in Minneapolis, Minn. Results will be available Monday.

The men's swimming and diving nationals will be next weekend in Athens, Georgia. Freshman diver Andy Bradley and junior Justin Wilcock will be the only two Cougars represented.
