Gonzales and Paul each take second place during Utah Diving Invite
SALT LAKE CITY – Nathan Gonzales and Morgan Paul earned second place in the men’s 1-meter and the women’s 3-meter, respectively, on the final day of the Utah Diving Invitational.
On the last day of the Utah Invite, Gonzalez posted a personal best score of 351.15 on the men’s 1-meter for second place. Gonzales posted the top score in rounds four and five and kept the lead through sixth round. It wasnt until the last diver, USC’s Dashiell Enos, edged him out at 353.10, resulting in Gonzales second place win. Morgan Cooper also competed taking seventh place with a score of 296.15, followed by Matt Denkers in eighth place at 283.05.
Paul recorded her season high on the women’s 3-meter with a score of 279.85. Her second-place finish was only 0.15 away from her first BYU zone cut. Elizabeth Holmes followed in third place with a score of 273.75.
On the first day of the competition, Gonzales recorded a score of 355.50 on the men’s 3-meter earning fourth place. Cooper earned sixth place at 325.35 while Bryce Farabee posted a 275.54 taking eighth place. In the women’s 1-meter, Holmes posted a score of 248.60 for fifth place while Paul earned ninth at 223.60.
This concludes the Cougars fall season with the winter season set to being on Jan. 13, at Grand Canyon University. The swim and dive team will also travel to Puerto Rico over the Christmas Break for training camp.
