Gonzales earns new season high on 3-meter during UT Invite

AUSTIN, Texas – Nathan Gonzales recorded a new BYU season-high score in the 1-meter at 348.75 during the first day of the UT Diving Invite in Austin, Texas.

"We made some good progress today and gained some valuable experience qualifying six divers into a televised finals situation," BYU head diving coach Tyce Routson said. "Nathan Gonzales made the podium on the 3-meter on a much improved final. Morgan Paul and Elizabeth Homes are getting very close to achieving NCAA qualifying scores on the 1-meter. Each day we will get more settled into our best performances."

The Invite kicked off Thursday morning with the men’s 1-meter prelims. There were four BYU divers who qualified for finals, including Gonzales (314.00), Matt Denkers (274.55), Ryan Evans (272.75) and Morgan Cooper (265.75). In the women’s 3-meter prelims, Holmes (252.25) and Paul (238.00) also qualified for finals.

During the finals of the men’s 1-meter, Gonzales posted a new season-high score to earn third place overall. Denkers placed fifth with 315.70 followed by Cooper in sixth at 303.90 and Evans earned 267.00 for eighth place. In the women's 3-meter finals, Paul posted a 265.30 for seventh followed by Holmes at 261.90 for eighth. 

The UT Diving Invite continues Friday morning at 11 a.m. CST with the women’s 1-meter prelims at the Lee and Joe Jamail Swimming Center. The women’s 1-meter finals and the men’s 3-meter finals will be broadcast live on the Longhorn Network starting at 4:05 p.m. CST. Live results are available on the swim and dive schedule page.
