Taylor, Sorenson and Dreesen to compete in NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships
PROVO, Utah – Jake Taylor, Payton Sorenson and Kevin Dreesen will compete in the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships March 23-26 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
“Last year we had two athletes in the NCAA Championships and this year we have three, which is great,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “I’m so excited for these three and for them to be able to build on last year. Jake has all of last year to use as experience, so he should be great. Payton is such a racer and he should do great as well, but this is his and Kevin’s first NCAA experience. We are expecting great things from all three of these competitors.”
Taylor will be competing in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke and 200 individual medley. Sorenson qualified for the 50 and 100 freestyle and Dreesen will be diving in the 1-meter event. Taylor is the only NCAA Championship returner, earning two First-Team All-American nods in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke last season. This will be Sorenson and Dreesen’s first trip to the Championships.
Thursday’s events include the 50 free, 200 IM and 1-meter dive. Friday will feature the 100 back and Saturday will include the 200 back and 100 free. Preliminaries for each day’s events will begin at 8 a.m. MDT, with finals starting at 4 p.m. MDT. Diving trials for the 1-meter will take place at 10:30 a.m. MDT on Thursday.
