PROVO, Utah -- BYU junior swimmer Hayden Palmer was named MPSF/TURBO Male Athlete of the Week after his record-breaking performance against Colorado Mesa last weekend.
Palmer grabbed first place in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:57.91 to break the Richards Building pool record. The previous record was set by Gary Tan in 2004 who completed the event in 3:59.41. Last year, Palmer was named to the All-MPSF First Team for his performance in the 400 IM (3:47.54).
"Hayden has been training very hard and wants to go to the NCAA [championships] more than anything," BYU head coach John Brooks said.
Palmer earned another first-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.99 against the Mavericks. He also attributed to the BYU sweep in the 200 breast, earning second place in 2:10.76.
Palmer will be back in action next weekend on Nov. 9 as both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams host UNLV at the Richards Building pool.
