Great Golf Paves Way to First Place After Round One

PALO ALTO, Calif. –Junior Zac Blair tamed the course during the first round of the NCAA Regionals en route to a 4-under 66 on Thursday.

“Zac got off to a good start today,” BYU coach Bruce Brockbank said. “He made some key five-foot putts to keep himself in it.”

Blair not only kept himself in the round, but grabbed a share for the lead with 36 holes left to play. The highlight of his day was on hole 17. After hitting his approach shot to the wrong side of the green, Blair sunk a 35-foot putt to salvage par.

On the 18^th he had a chance to put himself alone atop the leaderboard, but his birdie putt lipped out as he shot par on the final hole.

Sophomore Justin Keiley is also participating in regionals, the first time in his career.

“Justin did a good job,” Brockbank said. “He only made one bad swing today, but the rest was solid.”

Keiley started the day off right with a birdie on hole one, but followed it up with a double-bogey on two and another bogey on three. However, he would battle back, shooting a 1-over 71. Keiley is tied for 40^th, five strokes back of first place Blair.

The tournament will resume Friday with the second round of the three-round tournament.
