FRESNO -- Esteban Calisto shot two rounds of sub-par golf Monday as the BYU men's golf team finished day one of the Fresno Lexus Classic tied for fifth place.

"We have a good chance of finishing well going into the final day," Calisto said. "We need to get out there tomorrow and stay patient so we can shoot under par."

The Cougars are just nine strokes out of second place in a 16-team field that includes No. 7 San Diego State and No. 19 Duke, which sit in first and second places respectively after day one.

On the difficult Sunnyside Golf Course, Calisto, a senior, battled stiff winds to shoot a first-round, 1-under 71. He followed that by carding three birdies and only one bogey to finish round two with a 2-under 70, moving him into a tie for fourth place and within four strokes of the lead.

"It is a tough course," Calisto said. "There was wind and the greens are small and fast. I was lucky enough to shoot pretty well and stay consistent."

Sophomore Zac Blair joins Calisto in the top-20 following the first day after carding rounds of 75 and 73 to move into a tie for 19th place overall.

Freshman Justin Keiley and sophomore Alton Anderson sit in a tie for 47th place, while freshman Cole Ogden and senior Cameron Edens are tied for 63rd and 76th respectively after the first day.

Third and final-round action is set to begin tomorrow at 7:45 am PT. Follow final-round action live by clicking HERE or by visiting www.golfstat.com.
