Cougars in Position After Two Rounds
Erie, Colo. (Sept. 27, 2010) – Zac Blair led an impressive Cougar comeback in round two after an average first round as the BYU men’s golf team took sole possession of fifth place at the first annual Mark Simpson Invitational in Erie, Colorado.
“Zac (Blair) played pretty well today and we got some things going as a team,” said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. “We did a pretty good job of finishing and putting ourselves in a good spot going into tomorrow.”
Blair, a sophomore, came on strong in round one, shooting a 71 on the par-72, 7,676-yard Colorado National Golf Course. He finished the day with a 1-over 73 and moved into a tie for ninth place.
Sophomore Adam Tebbs posted a Cougar-best 69 in round two and moved into a tie for 14th place going into the final round. Tebbs recorded six birdies in the second round.
“Adam (Tebbs) was definitely a bright spot for us today,” Brockbank said. “I was impressed to see that he was 6-under going into the last two holes. It would have been nice for him to finish that way, but I was pleased.”
Seniors Esteban Calisto and Cameron Edens finished the day at 4 and 5 over par respectively, with Edens sinking three birdies in the second round.
Golfing in his first tournament of the fall, junior Daniel Reid birdied three times in round one to shoot a 2-over 74.
