Seniors Lead the Way for BYU

TUCSON -- The BYU men’s golf team had another successful day at the MWC Championships Friday, going 5-under-par in round two. The Cougars’ score of 279 brought their two-day total to -2 overall.

The Cougars currently sit in fourth place at the event behind No. 35 Colorado State (-11), No. 12 UNLV (-7) and No. 31 San Diego State (-6). The Rebels were the big movers in the round as they went from fourth place to second after going 13 strokes under par. BYU is still well ahead of No. 24 TCU (+23) and No. 45 New Mexico (+32) as well as Air Force (+28), Wyoming (+34) and Utah (+41).

BYU’s two seniors led the way in round two. Brady Johnson was the low Cougar on the day with a round of 68, three strokes under par. Johnson carded four birdies over Friday’s 18 holes and currently sits at -2 for the tournament, tied for fourth place. Robbie Fillmore is also tied for fourth place at 2-under-par after shooting a 69 in round two, including five birdies.

Getting his first taste of MWC tournament action this week, freshman Zac Blair also carded a 69, a significant improvement from his opening-round score of 77. His five birdies on the day helped him move to +4 overall, which is tied for 20th.

Sophomore Jordan Rodgers shot a 73 on Friday and is currently tied for 23rd at +5 while junior Esteban Calisto, who was tied for the lead after the first round, now sits in 16th place at +2 overall.
