THOUSAND OAKS -- The BYU men’s golf team completed a busy day of play on Monday in 11th place at the USC Collegiate after two rounds. The Cougars were 11 strokes over par through 36 holes of the event, going +2 in the first round and +9 in the second.

“This is a challenging golf course, much different than any other that we play,“ said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. “We’re hitting good shots but not capitalizing on our opportunities. There’s a lot of good teams in this field, and we’re here to work hard and see how we match up.”

Sophomore Jordan Rodgers led the way for BYU, going 1-under-par on the day. Rodgers posted the fourth-best first-round score of the tournament with a 68 over the first 18 holes, including two birdies and an eagle. He finished the day with a 73 on the par-71 course, putting him in a tie for 15th place overall.

Senior Robbie Fillmore finished the day at 1-over-par to tie for 27th place in the field of 80 golfers. His first round saw a score of 72 with three birdies. He went one better in the second round with an even-par 71 featuring four birdies, including two on the final three holes.

Just two shots separated BYU’s final three golfers as senior Brady Johnson (+5), junior Esteban Calisto (+6) and freshman Zac Blair (+7) each posted rounds of 73 over the first 18 holes before separating in round two.

The tournament will wrap up with round-three action on Tuesday.
