PROVO -- Following an outstanding season of consistent golf, BYU junior Brady Johnson was named to the PING West Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Johnson was one of 28 golfers named with members selected from the Mountain West Conference, Pac-10, and other regional conferences. Nearly 150 golfers nationwide were given spots on a regional team.

“I thought it was a positive year,” Johnson said. “As a team, we improved a lot from the previous year and personally I feel that I improved in several areas. I hope to continue to improve over the summer and get ready for my last season.”

The senior-to-be from Mill Bay, British Columbia, is coming off a strong year in which he competed in 14 events with six top-20 performances and had the team’s best stroke average of 72.78, which was 12th overall in the MWC. Some of his top finishes of the season included coming in fifth place at the USC Intercollegiate at 4-under-par and second place at the PING Cougar Classic at 10-under-par.

He also had a strong finale to the season by qualifying for an individual spot at the NCAA West Regional and placing fifth overall at 8-under-par in which he shot a 5-under 67 in the first round, a career low. He ended the season on a good note at the NCAA Championships by scoring 13-over-par at the famed Inverness Country Club.

“Although we didn’t finish the season as well as we wanted to as a team, next year we have plans to make the postseason tournaments and improve ourselves to make it happen,” Johnson said.
