Johnson Holds Spot as Top Individual
DALY CITY -- BYU’s two individual golfers Brady Johnson and Robbie Fillmore continue to play well at the NCAA West Regionals at the par-72 Lake Merced Golf Club.
With one round remaining to be played Saturday morning, Johnson is currently tied for fifth place overall at 5-under-par following an even-par round two, while Fillmore showed well with a 3-over second round.
Both golfers finished with two birdies apiece on the day with Johnson making 14 holes at par and Fillmore completing 11 at par.
Six regional events throughout the country will yield five teams apiece to send to the NCAA Championships May 25-30 at the Inverness Country Club in Toledo, Ohio. The top individual not a member of the five advancing teams from each region will also be sent to the championship.
If the top five teams Arizona State (-22), Oregon (-16), UC-San Diego (-10), Texas A&M (-9) and USC (-7) maintain their positions to advance to the Championship, Johnson would maintain his spot as the top individual not a member of the five advancing teams and would thus advance himself.
Kyle Prolo of San Francisco is currently tied with Johnson in fifth place at 5-under-par. San Francisco is in sixth place in the field at 5-under-par.
Round three will continue Saturday morning and can be followed on golfstat.com. Fillmore will tee off at approximately 9:50 a.m. MT, while Johnson will begin at roughly 10:10 a.m.
