BYU Finishes Strong at USC Collegiate Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE -- After three rounds of solid play at the USC Collegiate Invitational, the BYU men's golf team finished tied for sixth place ahead of three top-ranked teams.

Once again, sophomore Robbie Fillmore led the way for the Cougars as he finished tied for 7th overall and 8-over-par for the tournament. Freshman Esteban Calisto and junior Nick Killpack, who finished tied for 34th at 5-over-par, followed Fillmore.

Although BYU struggled in the first round with strong winds, they fought hard in the second and third rounds to finish sixth overall.

In the final round, Fillmore shot a score of 2-over-par 73, which included an eagle on the eighth hole and four birdies on the back nine. Calisto and Killpack both fired scores of 5-over-par 76.

The USC Collegiate Invitational consisted of 80 competitors from 14 teams. The overall individual winner was Tim Sluiter of USC, who shot 73-75-70-218. USC also won the tournament, followed by No. 10 Tennessee in second place and No. 7 Stanford in third.

The Cougars will be in action again on March 24. 25 and 26 at the U.S. Intercollegiate in Atlanta.
