Journal: Harvey's PGA Q-school experience

The reputation as PGA Q school being the most pressure packed event in sports is well deserved. With that said, the week for was an emotional roller coaster. Every shot is so important, and you could tell that just by the way the players looked at their shots. Each of us would watch our ball sail through the air, just hoping desperately that it turns out well. You don't get that in many events.

For me, the end result was disappointing. Obviously, my goal was to gain full status on the PGA Tour. I never gave up on that throughout the week, but it was evident during my last round that it wasn't going to happen. Still, when you consider only five players from last year's college class even made it through to the final stage, I'm pleased with the whole experience. I'll be playing on the Nationwide tour, which is arguably the second strongest tour in the world from top to bottom.

The highlight on my week was the fourth round. I shot 67, which was one of the best rounds of the day. When I came in with that score, I really thought I was going to clutch it up for the final two rounds. But, I just couldn't get the putter going, which put a lot of pressure on the rest of my game. When it comes down to it, I just didn't play as well I have been. With the quality of play I put together for the first stage, I would have been in contention to win it, but that's golf. I dug myself into a whole through two rounds, and just couldn't recover.

Despite the end result, however, I'll be taking a lot of good from the week. I feel like I really didn't have my best stuff, yet I was still competitive. I'm improving everyday, and that's going to be my goal for next year. If I can stay on the path I'm on and keep improving, there's a good possibility I'll be able to play my way onto the PGA tour for the 2007 season. When that happens, this week won't feel like a failure at all.
