BYU Finishes First at Fresno Lexus Classic

FRESNO -- The BYU men's golf team began in first, and ended that way Saturday at the Fresno Lexus Golf Classic in Fresno, Calif.

Led by brothers Andy and Scott Miller and Manuel Merizalde, the Cougars dominated the field of 16, ending with an overall score of 1034, 46 below par. The runner-up, host Fresno State, managed a 27-under par score of 1053, 19 strokes below the Cougars.

Andy Miller and Manuel Merizalde tied for second place to aid in the Cougar effort, and Scott Miller finished just one stroke behind with a score of 206. Jose Garrido finished 11th for the Cougars, while Billy Harvey and Todd Miller placed 19th and 33rd, respectively.

Craig Lile of Arkansas won a close individual competition with a score of 204, 12-under par.

Mountain West Conference school San Diego State took third in the team competition. Utah came in 8th, and Wyoming finished 12th.
