BYU men's golf team places ninth in the Western Intercollegiate

After a season of climbing up the rankings, the BYU men's golf team received a wake-up call at the Western Intercollegiate. The fifth-ranked Cougars tied with UC-Santa Barbara for ninth place with a final score of 870 (+30).

"This was our season's wakeup call. We need to learn from our mistakes, put this tournament behind us and look ahead to the Cougar Classic."

Manuel Merizalde was the low Cougar at the Western Intercollegiate shooting 70-71-74--215 and finishing in 17th place. All-Americans Andy Miller, Jose Garrido and Billy Harvey all posted some of their highest scores of the season.

"This was the type of golf course if you hit the ball on the wrong side of the hole, you'll get big numbers," said Brockbank.

BYU, who has more tournament victories than any other school this season, hopes to rebound from its worst finish of the season as it hosts the BYU-Stanford Shootout at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Utah on April 15th and the Ben Hogan Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah on April 21-22.
