Ex-BYU golfer, Andy Miller, turns pro

Andy Miller, a former BYU golfer, begins his professional career this week by playing in the Air Canada Championship.

"He'll do a great job in the pros," said BYU golf coach Bruce Brockbank. "The PGA tour needs guys like Andy Miller out there."

Miller, the son of former BYU All-American and NBC golf analyst Johnny Miller, will be looking to follow in the footsteps of another BYU great, Mike Weir, who won the Air Canada tournament last year.

Miller was a four-time All-American at BYU, where he helped the Cougars reach as high as a No. 5 national ranking. He was also recently named a member of the 2000 U.S. Palmer Cup team by the Golf Coaches Association of America, the first Cougar to be named to the team.

"He did an outstanding job at BYU," said Brockbank. "He is one of the top players in the country. He has as good a chance as anyone coming out of college and deserves everything he gets. If I were a betting man, I'd bet on Andy Miller."

The tournament runs through September 3, and is held at the Northview Golf & Country Club in British Columbia, Canada.
