BYU's Billy Harvey named Rolex College Golfer of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Brigham Young University senior Billy Harvey (Las Vegas, Nevada) and University of Arizona freshman Lorena Ochoa (Guadalajara, Mexico) have been named the Rolex College Golfers of the Month for September, after both won the individual titles at Rolex Collegiate Tour events.

Harvey won the individual title at the William H. Tucker. He fired a nine-under par 207 (67-70-70), while leading BYU to the team title. Harvey also posted a runner-up finish at the Northwest Collegiate Classic, where he shot a seven-under par 203 (67-68-68) while helping to lead the Cougars to a second place finish. In his third tournament of the month, Harvey tied for 34th place at The Preview presented by Ping and Golfweek. He shot 73-77 (150, +6) while helping to lead BYU to a second place finish. Harvey was named the Golf World Collegiate Player of the Week for the week of September 22nd. Harvey, ranked No. 18 the October 4th edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, compiled a stroke average of 70.00 for the month (nine rounds).

In the 1999-2000 season, Harvey had numerous top-ten finishes including a fifth-place finish at last year's Tucker Intercollegiate and a second-place finish at the John Burns Intercollegiate. He won medalist honors at the 1999 Utah State Amateur, 2000 Nevada State Amateur, and the 2000 Pacific Coast Amateur.

Billy Harvey was named Golf World's Collegiate Player of the week in the September 22, 2000 issue. He was also named Golf World's Collegiate Player of the week on March 31, following the lone birdie--an 18-footer--in the team playoff between BYU and UNLV at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate. Harvey is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Rolex College Golfer of the Month award is voted on by members of the College Golf Foundation's Golfer of the Month Committee. The award is based primarily on results from Rolex Collegiate Tour events, plus conference championships, NCAA Regionals and the NCAA Championships. Each winner will receive a certificate from the College Golf Foundation in recognition of this honor.
