SAN MATEO, Calif. — BYU men’s golfer David Timmins was named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team, the league announced Wednesday.

To qualify for WCC All-Academic honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and compete as a starter or significant reserve in at least half of their team’s tournaments during the 2023 season.

Timmins graduated in April with a degree in communications and turned in a 3.49 cumulative GPA during his five-year collegiate career. The graduate began his education and athletic prowess at Westminster College before transferring to BYU for the 2020-21 season to finish his college career.

“From the day David stepped foot on campus at BYU, he has been a great example of what we look for in a student-athlete," said BYU director of golf Todd Miller. "Timmins is extremely organized, goal-oriented, hardworking and dedicated to whatever he puts his mind to. He has excelled in the classroom and on the course."

During the 2022-23 campaign, Timmins teed it up in all 13 events for the Cougars, notching the lowest stroke average of his career with a 72.02 scoring average. The three-time WCC All-Academic honoree recorded seven top-25 finishes, five top 15s, three top 10s and two top 5s in his final season at BYU.

Timmins now turns his sights to Grayhawk Golf Club where he looks to help the Cougars earn a top finish at the NCAA Championship this week in Scottsdale, Arizona.
