KANSAS CITY, Mo. — BYU men’s golfer Tyson Shelley received College Sports Communications (CSC) Academic All-District honors, the organization announced Tuesday morning.

To qualify for All-Academic honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and compete as a starter or significant reserve in at least half of their team’s tournaments during the 2023 season.

Shelley is a communications major and holds a 3.95 GPA after concluding his second year of school and golf at BYU.

“Tyson Shelley never draws attention to himself,” said BYU director of golf Todd Miller. “However, he deserves a lot of credit for his efforts on the course and in the classroom. He constantly does things that impress me as a coach. He works hard at everything he does and has been a key piece of our team this season.”

During the 2022-23 campaign, Shelley notched 10 top-25 finishes in 12 events for the Cougars while taking top 10 in five events and finishing in the top 5 twice. The sophomore matched his career-low 18-hole round with a final round 66 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate to help the BYU shoot 54-under par, a 54-hole program record.

After besting his 2021-22 scoring average by nearly a full stroke in 2022-23, Shelley looks to help the Cougars earn a top finish at the NCAA Championship this week in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Those who are selected for first, second and third-team honorees will be announced on Thursday, June 22.
