Lundell and Cougars look to defend title at 58th Cougar Classic
PROVO, Utah — No. 44 BYU men's golf is set to host the 58th PING Cougar Classic on April 21-22 at Riverside Country Club, where Carson Lundell and the Cougars look to defend their 2022 team and individual title.
"We’ve played some solid golf this year and I believe the guys will be ready to come out and take care of business at home this week," said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. "The course is in fabulous shape after a long winter and this is our one opportunity to play at home, so the guys are really excited to post a good number."
Carson Lundell, David Timmins, Keanu Akina, Zac Jones and Tyson Shelley will tee it up for the Cougar team as they search for their 40th team title in the 58-year history of the event. Max Brenchley, Elijah Turner, Brock Goyen and Andrew Chin will each play as an individual competitor during the three-day event.
BYU will play host to a 16-team field including Boise State, Cal Baptist, No. 23 Colorado, CSUN, Denver, Gonzaga, Nevada, New Mexico State, Saint Mary's, No. 46 San Diego, Santa Barbara, Utah Tech, Utah Valley, Wyoming and Hawai'i.
The 54-hole championship will be hosted by Riverside Country Club for the 58th time since the first playing of the Cougar Classic in 1963. Since then, BYU has conquered the field at the 7,142-yard, par 72 course to take home 39 team titles while 29 Cougars have earned individual honors at the event.

Carson Lundell
Lundell, who has won medalist honors at the 2021 and 2022 Cougar Classics, looks to become the first player in the history of the event to win three individual titles. The senior has recorded 36 top-25 finishes, 29 top 15s, 21 top 10s, 13 top 5s, three runner-up finishes and three tournament wins in his BYU career. This will be Lundell's final appearance at the Cougar Classic before beginning his quest in professional golf following the 2022-23 postseason.
