PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s golf sits in 25th after shooting 14-over-par in the opening round of the Goodwin at TPC Harding Park on Thursday.

“Today was a really poor performance for our team and we didn’t do anything particularly well,” said BYU director of golf Todd Miller. “We were 1-over today as a team on the par 5s, which is second to last in a field of 28 teams. If we are going to make up some ground tomorrow, we need to capitalize on the par 5s. We’ll regroup tonight and the guys will be ready to bounce back tomorrow.”

No. 8 Stanford (273) leads at the close of day one after shooting 7-under to lead by two over No. 13 Oklahoma (275) who sits at 5-under. No. 11 Georgia Tech (277) is in third alone at 3-under with No. 35 Washington (280) and San Francisco (280) tied for fourth at even-par.

Carson Lundell was the low Cougar on day one as he posted a 2-over 72 to sit in a tie for 59th. Keanu Akina, Max Brenchley and David Timmins each carded matching 74s on day one while Zac Jones rounded out the scoring for BYU’s team with an opening 75. Tyson Shelley, who is competing as an individual shot 75 in round one.

Round two will begin for the Cougars at 7:05 PDT as they play with No. 35 Washington and Little Rock. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
