Lundell named WCC All-Conference for third-straight year
SAN MATEO, Calif. — BYU senior Carson Lundell was named to the men’s golf All-WCC Team on Monday.
“Carson has a very promising future in professional golf,” said BYU director of golf Todd Miller. “He’s an exceptional driver of the ball and is one of the most consistent putters in collegiate golf. He really doesn’t have any weaknesses in his golf game which is why you see him at the top of the leaderboard week-in and week-out.”
Lundell earned his third-straight All-WCC honor after recording 10 top-25 finishes, 7 top-10s and two top-2 finishes in 12 events during the 2021-22 season.
All-WCC selections and each major individual award winners were selected solely by the nine conference head coaches.
The 54th ranked player in the country fired a three-day total of 11-under-par to win the PING Cougar Classic for the second-straight year with rounds of 65-75-65—205 last week. He also carded a final round 67 at the 75th Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club to earn his second straight runner-up finish at the prestigious event.
“Carson is an incredibly consistent player and has proven that with five top-10’s during his seven spring tournaments,” said volunteer assistant Daniel Summerhays. “He has shown how good he is in crunch time with an amazing final round scoring average of 69.3 this spring. He is incredibly deserving of this honor.”
The 2021 PING All-American has been a steady force for a BYU team that looks to compete at the NCAA Regional after just missing out last season. Lundell was selected to compete as an individual at the 2021 NCAA Cle Elum Regional and finished tied for 33rd with rounds of 74-75-70—219. As a team, the Cougars have competed in seven of the last eight NCAA Regionals.
BYU is currently ranked as the 45th best team in college golf and will find out if they will compete in the 2022 Regional during the NCAA Regional Selection Show, Wednesday at 2 p.m. MDT on Golf Channel.
