Cougars to tee it up at WCC Championship in Vegas
PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s golf will tee it up at the 2022 WCC Championship at Reflection Bay Golf Club, April 28-30.
The Cougars are seeking their first WCC championship since the 2017 campaign when future All-Americans Peter Kuest, Patrick Fishburn and Rhett Rasmussen led BYU to a seven-shot victory over No. 22 ranked Pepperdine.
Carson Lundell, David Timmins, Cole Ponich, Tyson Shelley and Max Brenchley will represent BYU as they compete against No. 6 Pepperdine, Gonzaga, LMU, Pacific, Saint Mary’s, San Diego, San Francisco and Santa Clara for the conference title.
The Cougars are scheduled to tee off at 8:40 a.m. PDT and will be paired with the Dons and Waves in the first round. Reflection Bay Golf Club will host the 54-hole contest with 18-holes being played each day on the 7,193-yard championship course.
BYU has found it's stride heading into the conference championship coming off a fifth-place finish at the Western Intercollegiate on April 13, and a come-from-behind victory at the Cougar Classic on April 23. In their second win of the 2021-22 campaign, the Cougars held off WCC foe San Diego with a furious comeback, going 12-under-par in the last eight holes to win the Cougar Classic title.
Lundell, an honorable mention All-American in 2021, is one of the favorites to win the individual title this week at Reflection Bay. The senior is riding the momentum of a runner-up finish at the Western Intercollegiate and a victory at last week's Cougar Classic that included a final round 65 to win individual honors.
Live scoring for the WCC Championship will be available at golfstat.com and live updates will be posted on the BYU men’s golf Instagram page.
