SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — BYU men’s golf moved into eighth place after shooting a second-round 368 at the 75th Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club, Tuesday.

“Considering the high winds and tough conditions, 18 over was not a bad round today,” said BYU head coach Todd Miller. “The guys are sticking to their routines and I’m proud of how they are fighting for every stroke. Keanu and Carson shot even par but they felt like 66's all things considered.”

No. 9 Texas shot a 6-over-par 356 in the second round to take a 4-shot lead into the final day. Texas sits at 27-over after posting 371-356—727 over the first 36-holes. No. 8 Pepperdine is right behind at 31-over with rounds of 370-361—731.

San Diego State sits in third after posting 379-365—744 for 44-over. No. 6 Washington and No. 30 Arizona round out the top-5 at 49-over. The Huskies shot 373-376—749 while the Wildcats posted 381-368—749.

The Cougars were led by matching even-par 70’s from senior Carson Lundell and Keanu Akina. Lundell carded three bogeys and three birdies while Akina made four of each on his way to what Miller called, “a well-deserved even-par round.”

Lundell sit in a tie for 14th entering the final round, eight shots off the lead and two shots out of the top-10. Akina, who shot 81 in round one, climbed up the leaderboard Tuesday and sits in a tie for 35th.

After rounds of 74-75—149, David Timmins is tied for 24th as he seeks his second top-25 of the year. Max Brenchley is one back of Timmins at 10-over-par and shot a pair of 75’s on the first two days.

Cole Ponich posted rounds of 78-79—159 and is tied for 65th and Tyson Shelley, who is playing as an individual, is one back with rounds of 77-81—158. Zac Jones rounds out the scoring for the Cougars at 84-79—163.

The Cougars will tee off Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. PDT with the three hour Golf Channel broadcast beginning at 1 p.m. PDT.
