Cougars in sixth at The Goodwin with 18-holes to play

PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s golf sits in sixth place after a two-under-par 278 in the second round of The Goodwin, Friday.

No. 14 Stanford (268-272—540) is 20-under par for the tournament and leads by seven over Nevada (272-275—547) and SMU (270-277—547) who each sit at 13-under par entering the final round. No. 9 Washington (271-277—548) and No. 11 Georgia Tech are one shot back at 12-under with BYU in sixth, two shots back at 10-under.

Carson Lundell (66-66—132) fired a second-straight 66 to get to 8-under and is tied for third going into the final round. The senior made the turn at 36 but recorded five birdies for a back-9 of 30 to lead the Cougars back into contention.

David Timmins (69-68—137) carded a second-straight sub-par round to jump into a tie for 26th at 3-under par.

“The guys made a bunch of birdies on the back nine which really helped us jump into contention,” said Brockbank. “We need to stay mentally tough Saturday to capitalize on our good shots if we are going to make a run at Stanford.”

Cole Ponich sits in a tie for 39th after rounds of 66-73—139 in the first two rounds. Tyson Shelley carded rounds of 73-71—144 and Zac Jones rounded the scoring out for the Cougar with rounds of 71-77—148.

The Cougars tee off at 12 p.m. PDT in the final round of the Goodwin at Stanford Golf Course.
