Cougars in seventh at Lamkin Invitational
SAN DIEGO, CA — BYU men’s golf sits in a tie for seventh place after posting a 4-under 572 on the opening day of the Lamkin Invitational.
“The guys are making enough birdies to shoot in the 60s,” said BYU director of golf Todd Miller. “However, we are just making too many mistakes to keep any momentum, especially on easy holes where we should be able to score.”
After firing 21-under in round one, followed by a 15-under second round, LSU (267-273—540) leads the tournament. No. 15 Notre Dame (278-277—555) sits in second, five shots clear of the San Diego (283-277—560) who are in third place.
The No. 8 Washington Huskies (287-278—565) are 11-under through two rounds and hold a two-shot advantage over Nevada (277-290—567) who rounds out the top-5. BYU (286-286—572) is 4-under through the first two rounds and sits in a tie for seventh with the Cal (287-285—572)
Tyson Shelley led the way for the Cougars on day one. The freshman fired 70-71—141 to put himself in a tie for 18th entering the final round on Tuesday.
“Shelley played solid all day long,” said Miller. “It’s encouraging to see his consistency week after week as a freshman.”

Jones posted an even par 72 in round one followed by a 2-under second round, including two birdies and an eagle. Lundell carded matching 1-under 71s in the first two rounds to find himself in the top-25.
