Lundell in 51st after opening round at NCAA Regionals
CLE ELUM, Wash. – BYU’s Carson Lundell shot 3-over 74 on Monday to tie for 51st through 18-holes of play at the Cle Elum, Washington NCAA Golf Regional.
Lundell started the round off strong with an even-par 36 on the front nine. A bogey on 11, followed by a birdie on 14, kept him at even par, but a triple bogey on the par-5 15th put him at 3-over for the round.
"One bad swing today cost Carson four shots," said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. "Otherwise he played very solid."
Lundell is tied for 51st in the individual standings with six other golfers, including Jake Vincent of Southern Utah. He finished the round 2-shots ahead of Dylan Menante of Pepperdine. Menante is one of the regional’s highest-ranked individuals, coming in at No. 20 in the latest Golfstat top-250 player rankings.
"Carson needs two great days to potentially advance," said Brockbank. "I suspect a great round from him tomorrow."
Petr Hruby of host-team Washington, and Christoffer Palsson of San Francisco finished round one tied for first with scores of 5-under 66.
No. 6 ranked Wake Forest enters Tuesday’s second round tied for first in the team standings with WCC foe No. 25 San Francisco at 278. No. 7 Pepperdine, also of the WCC, is just one shot back at 279.
Lundell continues regional play with round two on Tuesday at 10:34 a.m. PDT. Live scoring updates are available on Golfstat.
