SAN ANTONIO — BYU men’s golfer Rhett Rasmussen qualified for the Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada over the weekend after finishing third at the USA Central Q-School on Friday, Feb. 21.
“I was fortunate enough to play well and put together a good score,” Rasmussen said. “I’m excited about it and it’s definitely a big step towards my ultimate goal of playing in the PGA Tour.”
Rasmussen fired a 286 (-2) over four rounds in frigid temperatures to take third place. Rasmussen, who led after round three, finished just two strokes behind tournament-winner Blake Elliott.
Rasmussen plans to finish out his senior season with the BYU men’s golf team before participating in the first Mackenzie Tour event, the Canada Life Open, at the end of May.
A member of the 2018-19 All-WCC Men’s Golf First Team, Rasmussen was also named a PING All-America honorable mention last season. The Draper, Utah native placed in the top-11 in all five of the Cougars’ fall tournaments. Rasmussen is currently ranked the No. 16 collegiate golfer in the nation by Golfstat.
