Kuest named to Ben Hogan watch list

PROVO, Utah – Peter Kuest was among 28 college golfers named to the Ben Hogan Award watch list by the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

The award is presented annually to the most accomplished collegiate golfer for the 12-month period between June and May. The GCAA will announce 10 semifinalists on April 17 and three finalists on May 2. The winner will be crowned on May 20 at a black-tie dinner at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, prior to the start of the PGA TOUR’s Charles Schwab Challenge.

Kuest, the lone watch list player from the West Coast Conference, has four wins so far during the 2018-19 collegiate golf season. He is coming off an impressive victory at the John A. Burns Invitational (Lihue, Hawaii), where he birdied the final hole to post a 54-hole total of 206 (-10) and one-shot victory Texas A&M's Walker Lee.

During the fall season, Kuest won three events including the William H. Tucker Invitational (Albuquerque, N.M.), the Pacific Invitational (Stockton, California) and the Saint Mary's Invitational (Pebble Beach, California). He also finished third at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. 

He is currently ranked No. 1 on Team USA in the Arnold Palmer Cup Player Rankings and is the No. 5 ranked NCAA Division I player by GolfStat.com. 

The Ben Hogan Trophy was first awarded in 1990. Former winners have combined to accumulate 41 PGA TOUR victories and six are currently ranked in the top 100 in the Official World Golf Rankings—Jon Rahm, Rickie Fowler, Patrick Cantlay, Kyle Stanley, Ryan Moore and Peter Uihlein. Other recipients include: Ricky Barnes, Matt Every, Doug Ghim, Bill Haas, Chris Kirk, Hunter Mahan, Maverick McNealy, Patrick Rodgers, Nick Taylor, D.J. Trahan and Chris Williams.

Former BYU golfer Patrick Fishburn was named to the watch list as a senior last year.
