Spring season gets in swing at Arizona Invitational
TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 9 BYU men's golf begins its spring season at the Arizona Intercollegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
"Anytime you have snow on the ground in Provo you're excited to travel to Arizona and play golf," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "The team is excited to get back to competing against a great field."
The Cougars return after a successful fall campaign, in which they won a tournament and recorded three second-place results. Picked to finish second in the West Coast Conference, BYU broke into Golfstat's Top 10 in its final fall rankings.
Junior Peter Kuest, ranked No. 4 among all NCAA men's golfers, leads the Cougars after winning three fall tournaments. Junior Rhett Rasmussen (No. 39) and freshman Carson Lundell (No. 172) are also ranked among Golfstat's Top 250 men's golfers after playing well in the fall. Sophomore Chad Hardy had a pair of top-20 finishes before the break. Austin Banz and Kelton Hirsch also contributed to BYU's solid results.
At last year's Arizona Invitational, Hirsch shot a 64 in the third-round to finish 15th individually and help the Cougars claim fifth place among 18 teams.
The two-day tournament will be hosted by the University of Arizona. Teams will play one 18-hole round on Monday and two on Tuesday. Golfstat.com will provide live results and the leaderboard.
