Cougars in 13th after round one of Arizona Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. — After the first round of the Arizona Intercollegiate at Sewailo Golf Club, BYU men’s golf sits in 13th place. Teams were slated to play 36 holes on Monday, but due to darkness pairings did not finish the second round.

“It was a rough day for us,” BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “We didn’t handle the high winds well or putt well. We saw better play in the afternoon. Hopefully we can shoot a great score tomorrow.”

The Cougars fired a first-round team score of 322 (+38) and sit in 13th place. As a team, BYU birdied five holes on the day.

Baylor leads all teams in first place at +19. West Coast Conference foe Saint Mary’s is in second place at +20, while LMU is tied for fifth at +26. Santa Clara shot +28 and is in seventh place.

Kelton Hirsch and Rhett Rasmussen both carded 80 (+9) in round one, tying for 49th place. Hirsch birdied two holes in the first round.

Peter Kuest, Patrick Fishburn and CJ Lee are all tied for 58th place after 18 holes. Kuest eagled the par-5 eighth hole.

Teams will finish second-round play on Tuesday before beginning the third and final round. Play will resume that morning at 8 a.m. MT. Follow the Cougars live via links provided on the BYU men's golf schedule page.
