No. 24 Cougars in sixth place at Saint Mary's Invitational

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — No. 24 BYU men’s golf sits in sixth place after two rounds of the Saint Mary’s Invitational, while Patrick Fishburn is tied for fifth place.

"Today was better all around," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "However, we are still leaving so many shots on the course. Mediocre putting has plagued us this week. It would be really nice if we could finish off the fall season with the low round tomorrow. We are very capable of doing it, we just need to capitalize on our good shots by making the putts."

After shooting 6-over on Monday, the Cougars bounced back with a 4-under round on Tuesday to sit at +2.

No. 33 USC sits atop the leaderboard at -13, with No. 13 Stanford sits close behind in second place at -12. Host and West Coast Conference foe No. 50 Saint Mary’s is in third place at -3.

WCC opponents San Francisco and No. 22 Santa Clara are in fourth place and 13th place, respectively.

Fishburn fired 67-71 to tie for fifth place through two rounds of play. The senior carded 37 on the back nine, followed by shooting 34 on the front nine. Fishburn birdied three holes on Tuesday and is at -4 through 36 holes.

Rhett Rasmussen is tied for 14th place. Rasmussen birdied four holes and bogeyed two holes to shoot -2 in round two. 

Peter Kuest shot a team-low 68 on Tuesday, birdying six holes. Kuest moved from an 86th-place tie after round one, to 50th place after round two at +5.

Spencer Dunaway and CJ Lee are tied for 55th place and 83rd place, respectively. Dunaway fired a second-round 72, while Lee carded 77.
