Fishburn fires 68 to keep BYU near top of leaderboard

STOCKTON, Calif. — Patrick Fishburn carded 68 on Friday to help No. 29 BYU men’s golf to a second-place finish after two rounds of the Pacific Invitational at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

"The team hung in there today," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "We didn't get the best start, but I liked the way we stayed tough and played good golf on the back nine. We need some guys to step up and shoot under par if we are going to have a chance to win tomorrow."

The Cougars are tied for second place with Nevada at -11 and sit three strokes behind No. 22 Santa Clara (-14). BYU carded 283 (-5) as a team on Friday.

Fishburn’s 4-under round moved him from 17th place to third place. The senior carded 31 on the back nine, birdying five holes, and sits at -6 overall through 36 holes.

Peter Kuest fired a second-round 69. Kuest is tied for seventh place at -5. Rhett Rasmussen, who was tied for second place after round one, is tied for 12th place. Rasmussen carded 73 to shoot -3 through two rounds.

CJ Lee and Spencer Dunaway fired a pair of 74s and are tied for 55th place at +3. 

BYU men's golf will compete in the third and final round of the Pacific Invitational on Saturday. The Cougars will begin play at 8:50 a.m. PDT. Links to live stats can be found on the BYU men's golf schedule page.
