WCC champion Cougars to compete in NCAA Stanford Regional
PROVO, Utah — After four regular-season tournament victories and a first-place finish at the 2017 West Coast Conference Golf Championships, No. 45 BYU men’s golf will compete in the 2017 NCAA Division I Regionals on May 15-17.
The Cougars will travel to Stanford to compete alongside 12 participating universities: host No. 4 Stanford, No. 9 Baylor, No. 15 Oklahoma, No. 21 Georgia Tech, WCC foe No. 27 Pepperdine, No. 33 North Carolina, No. 41 North Florida, Houston, Ohio State, UC Santa Barbara, Sacramento State and South Dakota State University.
Saint Mary’s will also participate in postseason play as the Gaels attend the NCAA Regional event hosted by Purdue University. Hayden Shieh of Santa Clara will represent the Broncos as an individual and will compete in the Stanford Regional.
Teams and individuals will play 54 holes over three days at Stanford Golf Course. Earlier this season, BYU placed eighth at The Goodwin held on Stanford Golf Course, with freshman Rhett Rasmussen claiming medalist honors.
Last season, Patrick Fishburn represented the Cougars in postseason play. Fishburn tied for 53rd in the 2016 NCAA Albuquerque Regional.
The low five teams and low three individuals not on those teams will advance to the 2017 NCAA Championships held at Rich Harvest Farms on May 26-31 in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
