Fishburn, Rasmussen, Kuest receive All-WCC accolades

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Junior Patrick Fishburn was named Co-West Coast Conference Player of the Year and Rhett Rasmussen was named Freshman of the Year, as the league announced Tuesday its annual postseason awards. 

Rasmussen and Fishburn were also named to the 2016-17 All-WCC First Team, along with freshman teammate Peter Kuest.

Fishburn entered the 2017 WCC Championship ranked No. 35, according to Golfstat.com. The junior tied for fifth place individually, helping BYU to its second WCC Championship title in four years. He compiled ten top-10 finishes during the 2016-17 season and medaled at the Pacific Invitational in October, carding 69-69-66. Fishburn's All-WCC first team honor is his second-straight.

WCC Freshman of the Year Rasmussen totaled four top-10 finishes in 2016-17, including a first-place victory at The Goodwin. Rasmussen fired a second-round 64 (-6) to secure medalist honors.

Kuest, who finished first individually last week at the 2017 WCC Golf Championships held at Riverside Country Club, concluded the year with two top-10 finishes.   

The 2016-17 All-WCC First Team features 11 student-athletes with nine ranking in the top-250 nationally according to GolfStat.com.
