SAN BRUNO, Calif. — BYU men’s golf was selected as the favorite to win the 2016-17 West Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship and two Cougars were named to the All-WCC Preseason team, the league office announced on Friday.

The Cougars, who placed first in three fall tournaments, captured 63 points and seven first-place votes in a poll of the league coaches.

Patrick Fishburn and Spencer Dunaway were both named to the preseason All-WCC team. Fishburn is ranked 49th on the latest Golfweek rankings, the highest ranked golfer from the WCC.

Fishburn has placed in the top-10 in both of the two tournaments that BYU has played this spring.

Dunaway tied for 47th in the John Burns Intercollegiate Friday and finished tied for 53rd place at the Arizona Intercollegiate in January.

BYU will host the 2017 WCC Championships at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah, on April 20-22.
