Day 1

LIHUE, Hawai’i — Placing in the top-20 individually, Patrick FishburnPeter Kuest and Rhett Rasmussen led BYU men's golf to a fourth-place tie after day two of the John Burns Intercollegiate on Thursday.

“We played some decent golf today,” BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “The wind was a factor most of the day, which made some of the holes challenging. We made some birdies in the middle of the round that gave us some momentum, but unfortunately we gave five or six shots back finishing our round. I believe we can have our best round tomorrow if we can eliminate some of the big numbers.”

The Cougars shot 2-under-par in Thursday's round and are tied with West Coast Conference foe Santa Clara at 6-under-par. Virginia leads all teams at 25-under-par, shooting 5-under in today's round.

Fishburn, who was tied for sixth place after the first round, is tied for ninth place individually after 36 holes of play. The junior shot 2-under (34) through the first nine holes and finished the day at even par.

Kuest and Rasmussen also placed in the top-20 after round two. Kuest shot 2-under-par on the day, shooting 2-under (34) on the back nine. Kuest is currently tied for 14th place and sits at 3-under for the tournament.

Rasmussen, who is tied for 19th place, is 2-under-par for the event. He birdied five holes Thursday.

Spencer Dunaway is tied for 54th place. The sophomore sits at 3-over-par overall and shot 1-over on the day. CJ Lee rounded out the scoring for the Cougars. Lee sits in 68th place at 5-over-par.

Austen Christiansen and Zach Pritchard are competing in the tournament as individuals. Christiansen is tied for 54th place with Dunaway, while Pritchard sits in 35th place at 1-over-par.

BYU will play the third and final round of the John Burns Intercollegiate Friday. Pairings will tee off at 8:30 a.m. HST in a shotgun start. Links to live stats can be found on the BYU men's golf schedule page
