Day One Results

STOCKTON, Calif. – With a seven-under-par solid team effort on Friday, the BYU men's golf team moved into first place and freshman Rhett Rasmussen stayed tied for first individually after day two of the Pacific Invitational at the Stockton Country Club.

"The guys played pretty solid today," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "They played well on the back nine and made quite a few birdies to shoot seven-under-par and get out in front. The biggest thing was that both Fishburn and Rasmussen played consistent and shot 69's. It was really nice to watch the guys hang in and play a pretty good round."

Sacramento State fell from first place to third as Seattle University moved into second behind BYU, but still trails by seven strokes.

BYU pulled ahead into first after a combined team effort. Sophomore Spencer Dunaway led the team as he shot four-under-par on the second round of 18 holes. Dunaway finished the first day shooting five-over, but had a better second day moving from being tied in 55th place to a tie for 16th place. He sits at just one-over-par.

"Spencer came back which helped the team a great deal," coach Brockbank said. "He shot 76 yesterday and 67 today, and that was a super round. Any time your guy goes out and shoots a score like that it really helps the team."

Freshman Rhett Rasmussen and junior Patrick Fishburn finished the second round both shooting two-under-par. Rasmussen continues to hold the lead with Sacramento State’s Aaron Beverly at six-under-par overall. Fishburn is tied for third place with four-under-par.

Peter Kuest moved his way into 21st place after shooting one-over-par on the day to bring his total to two-over-par. CJ Lee shot six-over-par and sits tied for 47th place.

Austen Christiansen continues to perform well as an individual finishing the second round at one-over-par. He is tied for 12th place with an even par.

"We're excited about tomorrow and hope we can go out and have another good round," coach Brockbank said.

Teams will play the third and final round of the Pacific Invitational, Saturday. Group play will begin at 9:30 a.m. MT.
